With the strength of a bear! Paddington joins the WDR mediagroup

A red hat, a blue duffle coat, and an old suitcase full of orange marmalade sandwiches—the stories of Paddington have been making children and adults chuckle for over 65 years now. The brand’s timeless message promises lovable, humorous family entertainment for all. And with the WDR mediagroup, the Paddington brand has found its new DACH region home: the licensing agency has secured the marketing rights for Paddington from the licensor, The Copyrights Group, and with that, regional responsibility for all product areas except theme parks.

Regularly updated and expanded style guides geared to Paddington’s target group present licensing partners with diverse opportunities for cooperative ventures. The global success of the brand is impressive. Over 160 licensees have marketed more than 1,000 licensed products worldwide, and over 35 million books and 25 million plush products have been sold. Paddington is a true children’s book hero who has moved beyond the bookshelves to additionally conquer TV and cinema screens, social media networks, and children’s rooms.

About Paddington For over 65 years, British author Michael Bond’s tales about Paddington, the bear from Peru known for his predilection for orange marmalade, have been charming readers around the world. The stories’ warmhearted humor appeals to children and adults alike, earning Paddington the affection of multiple generations. HarperCollins Children’s Books has been publishing Paddington’s exploits since October 13, 1958, when William Collins first introduced “A Bear Called Paddington” to the world. Since then, there have been multiple television adaptations of Paddington’s adventures. The beloved bear made his big-screen debut in late 2014. This was followed by “Paddington 2” in 2017, and a third film is currently in the works. The films are produced by StudioCanal , a 100-percent subsidiary of the CANAL+ Group—under the ownership of Vivendi—that is Europe’s leading company in the production, distribution, and international sales of feature films and series. In 2020, “The Adventures of Paddington,” a brand-new television series for preschoolers, was launched on Nickelodeon, introducing the figure to a whole new fan community.
